Considering the boundaries of perception and action; it is natural to hold that perception is the interface where the world affects the mind and action is the interface where the mind affects the world. What precedes perception and what follows action is not truly mental.

A critical distinction when it comes to intentional action is to know what effects you can have on the environment and most importantly what the environment consists of since we are shaped by our environment before any intentional action can in turn reform it.
